그림을 그리는 이 AI는 며칠 전 영국 의회에 출석했는데, 한번 들어보시죠.
"네, 이렇게 AI가 그림과 음악 같은 다양한 분야에서 창작물을 만들어내면서 그 저작권을 인정할지를 두고 논란이 일고 있는데, 최근 국내에서도 관련 갈등이 시작됐습니다.
이미 저작권료를 받아왔던 작곡 AI 이봄을 둘러싼 논란부터 안희재 기자가 단독 보도합니다." 명령어 입력창에 음악 장르와 곡의 길이를 써 넣자, 10초도 안 돼 경쾌한 음악 한 곡이 완성됩니다.
당장 클럽이나 카페에서 틀어도 손색없는 수준입니다.
광주 과학기술원이 개발한 작곡 AI '이봄'은 음악이론을 학습해 개연성 있는 선유를 만들어내는 방식으로 작곡하는데, 클릭 두 번이면 몇 초만에 음악을 완성합니다.
사용자가 음악을 전혀 몰라도 곡을 만들 수 있습니다.
지난 6년간 30만곡을 만들었고, 3만곡을 팔아 6억원에 매출을 올렸습니다.
지난해 가수 홍진영 씨의 노래 '사랑은 24시간' 등을 작곡해 저작권자로 이름을 올리기도 했습니다.
그런데, AI 이봄이 만든 음악 6곡에 대해 저장률 지급을 해왔던 한국음악 저작권협회가 지난 7월 돌연 저작권료 지급을 중단하겠다는 공문을 보내왔습니다.
"사람이 아닌 AI가 작곡한 사실을 뒤늦게 인지했다며, 저작권료 지급의 법적 근거가 없다,"는 이유였습니다.
저작권법상, 저작물은 인간의 사상이나 감정을 표현한 창작물로 정의하는만큼, AI가 만든 작품을 저작물로 볼 수 없다는 겁니다.
그래서 지금 AI는 어찌됐던 창작의 주체이거든요.
창작 권리를 보호받고 있지 못한다는 건 되게 안타까운 사실인 것 같긴 합니다.
창작물은 있는데 걸리는 어디서도 인정받지 못하는 상황.
제 3자가 영리 목적 등으로 무단 도용에도 저작권법의 보호를 받을 수 없습니다.
그림과 음악, 소설, 만화까지 AI의 창작물이 다양해지고 있는만큼, AI 개발자들은 창작자에 대한 권리인정이 늦어지면 인공지능 분야 발전에 걸림돌이 될 거라고 지적합니다.

This is Ada, a humanoid robot with the appearance of a short-haired woman.
This AI that draws pictures appeared before the British Parliament a few days ago, and here's what she had to say.
"Yes, as AI creates creations in various fields such as painting and music, there is a controversy over whether to recognize their copyright, and recently, a related conflict has started in Korea.
Reporter Ahn Hee-jae reports exclusively on the controversy surrounding composing AI Lee Bom, who has already been receiving royalties." Enter a music genre and the length of the song in the command line, and in less than 10 seconds, an upbeat song is completed.
You could play it in a club or cafe right away.
'Ibom', a compositional AI developed by Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology, composes by learning music theory and generating melodic lines, which can be completed in a few seconds with two clicks.
Users don't need to know anything about music to create a song.
Over the past six years, the company has created 300,000 songs, sold 30,000 songs, and generated 600 million won in sales.
Last year, it composed singer Hong Jin-young's song "Love is 24 Hours" and was named as a copyright holder.
However, in July, the Korean Music Copyright Association, which had been paying royalties for six songs created by the AI, suddenly sent a letter stating that it would stop paying royalties.
"There is no legal basis for the payment of royalties," they said, claiming that they realized after the fact that the music was composed by an AI, not a human.
Under copyright law, a work of authorship is defined as a creative expression of human ideas or emotions, so an AI-created work cannot be considered a work of authorship.
So now AI is a creative entity anyway.
I think it's a very unfortunate fact that creative rights are not protected.
It's a situation where the creation is there, but it's not recognized anywhere.
Even if a third party steals it for profit, it is not protected by copyright law.
As AI creations are becoming more diverse, from paintings and music to novels and comics, AI developers point out that the delay in recognizing the rights of creators will hinder the development of the AI field.
